What Is Pool Coping and Why Does It Matter?
Pool coping is the cap material installed along the top edge of the pool shell. It is the finished border between the pool water and the surrounding deck. Done right, it protects the pool structure from water intrusion, gives swimmers a safe grip edge and ties the entire pool area together visually.
Old or cracked coping allows water behind the pool shell, which leads to structural damage over time. If your coping is chipping, staining or separating from the pool shell, replacing it is worth doing before the damage gets worse.

What is the best coping material for a Florida pool?
Travertine is extremely popular in Central Florida because its surface stays cooler than concrete in direct sun and it is naturally slip-resistant. Brick coping and bullnose pavers are also common choices.
Can you replace just the coping without redoing the whole deck?
Yes. We remove the existing coping and install new material without disturbing the pool shell or the rest of the deck, as long as the underlying structure is in good condition.
How long does pool coping installation take?
Coping-only replacement typically takes 1 to 2 days. Combined coping and full deck paver installation takes 3 to 5 days depending on the size of the pool area.
Is travertine slippery around a pool?
Unfilled travertine has a naturally textured, slightly porous surface that provides good traction even when wet. We recommend tumbled or brushed finishes for pool areas for maximum slip resistance.
